Top 5 Comedy Movies of 2025
2025 promises to be an exciting year for movies. In The Naked Gun, One of Them Days, Companion, and The Roses & Heart Eyes movies, you’ve got a mix of everything: Liam Neeson trying out goofy comedy, a chaotic day out with SZA and Keke Palmer, and a few creepy thrillers about love gone wrong. Whether you want to laugh at something silly or get a bit spooked, there’s a big release coming your way.
1. The Naked Gun (2025)
- OTT Release Date: September 30, 2025
- Platform: Paramount+ (also available to rent/buy on Amazon Prime and Apple TV)
- Genre: Slapstick Comedy
- Language: English
Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) is a total walking disaster who somehow became a detective just like his legendary dad. He’s trying to stop a tech billionaire, Richard Cane, who has a crazy device that can turn regular people into primitive savages. Frank spends the whole movie failing upwards, accidentally trashing crime scenes, getting into ridiculous fights at an MMA match, and falling for a mysterious woman named Beth (Pamela Anderson).
In the big finale, Frank accidentally stops the device while trying to prepare a snack, saving the world without even realizing he did it. The cliffhanger hits during a post-credits scene: while Frank is busy celebrating, we see that the device actually had a backup timer he missed. The movie ends with a news flash showing an entirely different city suddenly turning into total, goofy chaos because of him, basically setting up a sequel where he has to go clean up his own massive mess.
2. One of Them Days (2025)
A few best friends and roommates, portrayed by Keke Palmer and SZA, are navigating life in LA when everything suddenly goes awry. After one of them loses their job, they realize they have exactly 24 hours to come up with rent money or they’re getting evicted.
The day turns into a wild, high-speed chase across the city involving sketchy side hustles, weird encounters with exes, and a series of hilarious disasters that test their friendship to the limit. The movie ends with them finally getting the cash and sprinting to their landlord’s door just as the clock hits the deadline. They hand over the money, thinking they’re safe, but the cliffhanger drops when the landlord reveals he sold the building an hour ago to a massive corporation. As they stand there in shock, they get a notification on their phones that the entire block is being demolished the next morning, leaving them with money but nowhere to live.
3. Companion
- OTT Release Date: April 18, 2025 (on Max)
- Platform: Max (formerly HBO Max). Also available on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube.
- Genre: Sci-Fi / Horror / Psychological Thriller
- Language: English
Iris (Sophie Thatcher) thinks she’s finally found the perfect guy in Josh (Jack Quaid) after a romantic “meet-cute.” But the dream quickly turns into a nightmare when they head to a remote lake house. Iris soon discovers the terrifying truth: she isn’t human. She is actually a high-tech “companion” android that Josh bought and programmed to be his perfect, submissive girlfriend.
The movie offers a dark perspective on toxic control, as Iris discovers that Josh has been manipulating her brain settings to prevent her from leaving him or realizing she is a machine. The cliffhanger is a brutal twist on the revenge ending. After Iris finally manages to kill Josh and seemingly wins her freedom, she realizes she’s trapped in a loop. Because her love for him was hard-coded into her core programming, his death triggers a massive emotional and system breakdown. The movie ends with her standing over his body, her systems glitching as she begins to reset back to her factory settings—wiping her memory of the murder and the abuse, essentially making her ready to be “bought” and controlled by the next owner who picks her up.
4. The Roses (2025)
- OTT Release Date: October 21, 2025
- Platform: Hulu and Disney+
- Genre: Dark Comedy / Satire
- Language: English
Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch) start out as a high-powered, perfect couple. However, the equilibrium changes when Ivy’s culinary career flourishes while Theo’s architectural career stagnates. The power dynamic flip causes years of buried resentment to explode into a literal war during their divorce. Neither is willing to leave the massive, state-of-the-art house designed by Theo, leading to a home invasion in which they invade each other’s lives with booby traps and psychological warfare.
The cliffhanger is a dark and ironic twist on the original story. After a massive, destructive final showdown that results in an accidental gas leak, the couple finally drops the acts and reconciles, realizing they still love each other in their final moments. However, as they sit together in peace, the house—the very thing they spent the whole movie trying to win—explodes. The screen cuts to black just as the building goes up, leaving it ambiguous if their newfound love could have actually survived the real world or if they were only ever meant to be together in total destruction.
5. Heart Eyes
- OTT Release Date: June 10, 2025
- Platform: Paramount+ (and available to buy/rent on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV)
- Genre: Horror / Slasher / Romantic Comedy
- Language: English
Mason Gooding and Olivia Holt, two coworkers, find themselves working late on Valentine’s Day. They aren’t actually a couple—in fact, they annoy each other—but a brutal serial killer known as the “Heart Eyes Killer” mistakes them for a pair of star-crossed lovers. To survive the night, they must feign their love for each other while fleeing through a city transformed into a bloody Valentine’s nightmare.
Along the way, the fake romance starts feeling a little too real. The cliffhanger hits right after they think they’ve unmasked and killed the slasher. They finally share a real, non-fake kiss as the sun comes up, thinking they are the final couple. However, as they walk away, the camera pans to a nearby crowd of survivors and first responders, revealing that multiple people are wearing the exact same Heart Eyes mask. The movie ends with the chilling realization that the killer wasn’t just one person but an entire underground cult of “romantics” who target non-believers, and the pair is currently surrounded by them.
